What kind of server each one is, according to the people who run them. A category is only here once a server owner has asked for it and a moderator has agreed, so the list is short on purpose.
Counts are servers you would actually see: dormant ones — no answer to a ping in weeks — are left out here for the same reason the browse list hides them, so the number matches the page it opens.
